After second World War the Balkan area was in somewhat mixed state. Croatia, which had been an independent (puppet) state from 1941 to 1945 was forced to unite with Tito's Yugoslavia. The former Croatian fascist government (aka. NDH; Independent State of Croatia) went to exile with leadership of Dr. Ante Pavelic: first to Argentina, then in Spain. This exile era sparked a range of interesting stamp like items. ...(612 words,3 images, 9 comments)
Dynamic duo, designer Koloman Moser and engraver Ferdinand Schirnböck revolutionized stamp design in the early 20th century. One of their most recognizable works is the 1906/1912 pictorial landscapes series for the Condominium of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These stamps are big, bold and beautiful in every sense (and of course there are forgeries involved as well). ...(740 words,18 images, 2 comments)
Here's an interesting print variety that sat on my collection for several years unnoticed. I noted this only weeks back when I was sorting through some new additions, and compared the stamps in detail to determine what specimens to keep. ...(169 words,3 images, 3 comments)

This appears to be 1944 stamp from the short lived German (and Bulgarian) occupation of Macedonia. ...(148 words,1 images, 2 comments)
For the last few weeks my primary focus with stamps has been in soaking a batch of Yugoslav stamps and re-organizing my collection of that area. I confess that in the past I haven't given much value the aesthetics of Yugoslavian stamps, mostly because my collection has been very limited. But now I think I'm starting to fall in love with these. One of my absolute favorites is the Tourism (or as Scott calls it City views) series issued from 1971 onwards. ...(493 words,4 images, 12 comments)
