I think most stamp collectors of my generation are familiar with the looks of Syracuse coin definitive stamps series of Italy. The design, a woman's head with a turreted crown, is a masterpiece of modern stamp design in miniature size. As these stamps were widely used for several decades, pretty much every worldwide stamp collector I know considers their quota for these stamps full. IMHO it's kind of funny, that it's usually cinderella items that cause more research and headache than real postage stamps. Here's one my all-time favourite cinderella items from Italy.
