I’m having a busy week at work & home, so this will be a very short note simply displaying some of this years Finnish Christmas postage stamps, that I purchased earlier today… This year Finland’s official Christmas issue consists of 3 designs:two of these are for domestic rate greetings (0.55€), additionally there is a 1st class stamp for regular letter rate/international postage. All are (hopefully soakable) peel & stick stamps.

2010 Finland. This years domestic rate greetings stamps - a complete sheet pane consists of 20 stamps.

Personally I’m feeling a bit mixed about these. Though I love Christmas, the design of these is bit “too much hollywood” for my taste… Regular readers of the blog might remember that last year I did run-through of past Finnish Christmas postage stamps in 25 daily posts. It’s still very much worth a read/browse.

Happy collecting folks. It’s only 30 (or so) days till Christmas…

And a short English summary… Above Sirpa asked (in Finnish) what the Finnish Personalized stamps mean to a stamp collector, and will they become desired collectibles worth something (due to low print numbers), or low value freaks?

My response was that they will very likely remain as freaks, because there is only very limited interest towards these (both on national and international level). Additionally I stated that collecting/keeping Finnish peel&stick stamps as mint may not a wise move, because most (if not all) Finnish self-adhesive stamps seem to suffer from glue problems (glue eating through paper etc) within 5-10 years after their issue if the conditions are not perfect.

I’ve only started collecting recently, and decided to just stay with Australia stamps for now.

BUT…… I got suckered in this year with the Wallace and Gromit releases by Royal Mail!!

They are gorgeous – have you seen them?

oh – as for relevance.. lol

They are Christmas Stamps.. ofcourse.. lol

    Hi Louella,

I’ve seen the pictures, and I’m definitely drooling after them. Especially the “generic sheet” (whatever that may be) with Stamp-O-Matic is a great one (but I doubt that finding it in used condition will be almost impossible)

I love these! The Santa one is super cool. I love the fact that they used blue in the background. It gives it a real unique feel. I guess Finland has some excellent stamp designers.
