Covers from around the world
I haven’t showcased any of my incoming mail lately due to other interests and lack of time. But now I think is a time to look some of the covers (or more precisely stamps) on those covers I have received. The covers come from Finland, Australia and Switzerland.
The Finnish cover has a nicely cancelled stamp from the 2009 Finnish autonomy 200 years miniature sheet. As a result of the Russo-Swedish war of 1809, Finland’s centuries-long connection with Sweden were severed and Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire. The stamp has a portrait of Carl Erik Mannerheim (1759–1837), who led the Finnish delegation sent to Russian czhar Alexander I in 1808.

The Australian cover has a nice selection of 2007 Australia self-adhesive stamps. Sadly the cover and stamps didn’t quite make the long journey – three of stamps on the cover are more or less damaged. The survived stamps shows Tamworth and Adelaide Central Market. Tamworth is Astralia’s Country Music Capital that hosts the Australian Country Music Golden Guitar Awards each year in January. Adelaide central market is a major tourist attraction and large multicultural market in the centre of the CBD in Adelaide.

The final cover is from Switzerland. The 1985 Pro Juventute stamp (35+15c, Michel #1297) shows some kind of musical instrument. The 1990 Pro Juventute stamp (35+15c, Michel#1431) shows a kid building a (toy) sailship. The 2004 definitive stamp (100c, Michel #1873) shows a swiss design classic - Landi chair by Hans Coray. And final stamp is from year 2005 Write Letters series showing an photograph of kissing kids by Swiss photographer René Burri.
