WW2 Christmas seals
To continue last posts christmas seal theme, I’d like to share images of two World War II era christmas seals. Their design and use of colours is IMHO so striking, that one can still feel how tough the times have been in 1943.

On the left is Danish christmas seal issued in 1943. The design shows a little girl collecting flowers. Many of the 1943-seals were printed on yellowish, so called war paper. The design is by Viggo Bang. The seal was first published 20th November 1943, and it’s total print is 33 million stamps.
The right side seal is from Sweden, and it was issued in 1942. The design is showing “Little match girl”, a fairy tale figure by danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen. IMO this faint figure describes the meaning of hope and dreams of better future better than thousand words.

I have a ton of US christmas seals from 1920-1960’s in mint condition.
Since I’ve got such enjoyment from your blog, if you send me a mailing address I’ll send you a nice selection of them with my compliments.

@Joseph… Thank You for the generous offer. Unfortunately my interest lies only in used / canceled items (forgeries being the only exception where I consider collecting mint as well)… If You’d like to support the blog, then You (and anyone) can assist me best by spreading the word about this blog. Drop a line to a friend, share some words at local stamp club meeting etc. Every bit of help counts.
