Updates on the blog
Just a quick note to inform everyone that I’ve done some updates with the blog. As regular readers will likely note, the appearance of the blog has changed to some degree. Most importantly, this update was about cleaning up misc clutter that had accumulated, and making the “meaty” content more easy to find. Below is short summary of changes.
New top level categories
On top of the page, you’ll notice a blue bar with various link buttons. These are the new top level categories for the blog.

The general categories for blog contents can be found on top navigation bar.
Stamp Collecting Blog home is a general dashboard. It lists both the most recent activity (latest posts and latest comments) on the blog as well as gives recommendations and tools (such as most popular pages, list of subcategories, search etc) that will hopefully make it easier to dive into the blog contents.
Generally speaking is about my life as stamp collector. These somewhat philosophical writings have created a nice amount of discussion.
BOBs and EFOs lists miscellanous BOB (Back-of-Book) EFO (Errors, Freaks, Oddities) items I have found.
Philatelic knowledge base is a poor name for the asset that is likely the most valuable this blog has to offer. This category contains meaty indepth writings where I try to unravel details of various stamps series.
How to preserve and build a stamp album highlights one of my favorite topics: storage of stamps.
Stamp software is another topic I’m very attracted. As a geek I have a habit of utilizing and trying out various stamp related software and services to much larger degree than most collectors. These posts bring up some of my observations and opinions about existing stamp software alternatives.
Though I’m just a regular stamp collector, I get more than fair my share of questions about Stamp values. With these entries, I try to share some of my views on this particular topic.
Q & A is the closest equivalent of discussion board / forum this blog has to offer. The idea is very simple. You ask, I (and possibly other blog readers) respond to Your questions.
My worldwide stamp collection gives a general level rundown of my collection.
Stamp gallery is a new feature. Essentially it gives a visual way to browse everything this blog has to offer.
My stamp exchange is about my personal “stamp exchange program/scheme”… And no. The exchange is still having it’s summer break.
And finally there’s the About page. It gives some general background information about me as well as the history of this blog.
Other categories and sub categories
If the top level categories don’t give you enough power to drill down to specific topic, You can always utilize other categories and sub-categories. A list of these can be found on either on right side of the page, or on bottom of the page (depending on Your screen / display resolution).

A list of sub categories can be found either on right side of the entry, or on bottom of page.
What’s next…
Yes. I know that update did break some features.I’ll try to fix most of these issues during the next day or two… In the meantime, I hope that if You notice anything weird / broken, please drop me a message.
Yes. I know there are plenty of rough edges with this new look and structure. These are something I’ll try to deal in upcoming autumn… But once again, if you have anything specific that bugs you to death, please drop me a note.
Also if you have any suggestions for improvement, feel free to drop me a line.
Till next time, happy collecting!

Actually the blog will continue it’s summer break for some time (like stated earlier, I have no schedule with the break – it will continue as long as the weathers are good/nice in Finland). This recent update was simply because of miserable weathers in last couple of days, but now the sun is shining again
Hi Keijo-san
This first newsletter that I’ve received from you since I signed up contains great news about the site’s improvements. The first thing I notice is that it’s no longer necessary to have to scroll far across to the right to access the search function. It’s marvelous to more easily be able to find the real meat, as you so aptly put it. Do enjoy more of the midnight sun, and I’ll keep setting aside Japanese stamps for exchange once you open up that channel. One final thought – it would be great if there were some easy feature where native English speakers would be able to assist in gently tweaking your grammar typos in the right direction. Just the odd missing article or word – nothing major, I’m happy to report. For instance, I would be happy to point out a dozen small alterations each time that I visit your site; it would not be onerous for me. But you certainly wouldn’t want to give out editorial powers! Neither is it workable for readers to describe and explain the edits, as that would require several times as much effort from them and from you to laboriously find and make them. On the other hand, you may feel that perfect English is not a priority, a necessity or even something desirable, and that a certain Finnish flavor is fitting. In any event, I look forward to learning a great deal more about the topic from you in the future. Thank you for your generously shared work
@William… Happy to hear you liked (some of) the changes
Re, suggestions / improvements / updates for articles… I think that using the comment box may work best for all parties. It’s the simplest way to implement such a feature (technically speaking), and some readers already use it for such purposes (also the French and Spanish translations You see on some pages have been submitted this way).
PS. The midnight sun is no more visible in central Finland.
