There are plenty of interesting Vietnamese stamps, but one of my personal favorites is this striking doubled frame print error on CTO-used stamp commemorating the birth of Raphael.
And more wonders of Asia… This extremely beautiful set of “Wood figurines” postage stamps comes from Thailand. A set of four stamps was issued in february 2007 to commemorate 20th Asian International Stamp Exhibition in Bangok.
To follow up yesterdays post about the wonders of India, here’s another extremelely beautifull cover from India. This time the stamps celebrate Rampur Raza Library.
I know many (European) stamp collectors dislike Indian stamps, but personally I love them 110%. I agree that “head stamps” (=portraits of men/woman) of any country are somewhat boring in design, but when moving to topicals issues…Well, then current Indian stamps are very hard to beat.
Ivan Aguéli (1869-1917) , also known as Sheikh ‘Abd al-Hadi Aqhili upon his acceptance of Islam, was a pioneer and master of Swedish modern / contemporary art. In addition he was also a wandering Sufi (a Muslim mystic), linguist and author. To commemorate a centenary of Ivan Aguéli’s birth Sweden issued it’s first miniature sheet in year 1969.
I confess that for a long time I didn’t like French stamps. The problem was pretty much the same as with any foreign country that one collects randomly – what you get is usually definite series with messy cancellations. Luckily my collection of French stamps has grown from my early collecting days, and currently France is one of my favorite European countries to collect. This is pretty much due to interesting themes that go on year after year.
