Switzerland 1939 – Schweizerische Landesausstellung -1st series
Just to display a stamp set I finally managed to complete: Switzerland, 1939 National exposition of Zurich, 1st series. Personally I find these stamps attractive in all senses, as they feature nice design and plenty of small variations to keep hawk-eyed stamp collector alert. The stamps are available in 3 different inscriptions (French, German, Italian), and each value has been printed on different kind of paper (10c smooth, 20c grooved,30c fibers paper).

1939 Switzerland. National exposition of 1939, Zurich. 1st series. Michel 335-343, cat. value 28€.
I acknowledge what I have are not picture perfect copies (especially the 10c stamp with French inscription; it has some toning on couple of tooth edges – and some cancels could be a lot better), but I’ll enhance these as I manage to find better copies.
As for the second series… No pictures for that; sorry….I still need most stamps from that set in order to complete.
I just wonder why didn’t they didn’t issue a stamp with Romansh inscription (as it is officially the 4th language of Switzerland). Was the number of native speakers too small to justify stamp issue costs, or was there some other reason (relating to approaching world war / politics)?
