Random stamp stories
Carol suggested in a recent blog comment that I should write a piece about the stamps you see on the blog’s header image. Tough each of the stamps has been covered thoroughly on the blog during year 2009, newer readers of the blog might not be familiar with them. A common nominator for all these stamps is that I like their designs.
The Austrian stamp is from Beautiful Austria series, and it was covered on Beautiful Austria definitive stamp with strange cancel. All in all this stamp has one of my favourite definitive designs on modern stamps.
The second stamp is a Wurttemberg stamp showcased in CTO cancelled Wurttemberg stamps. This is a very classic design.
The US 8c Eisenhower stamp is one my oldest EFO items. It was showcased in 1971 US Eisenhower booklet stamp perf error.
The next two items, from France, share my passion to comic books and graphic novels. They have been featured in Vive la France – some good reasons to collect French stamps.
The Bavarian stamp showcased in “The story of Luitpold, Prince Regent of Bavaria is IMHO one of the most classic stamp designs. Especially the colors on this stamp are something you can’t reproduce with modern technology.
Next on the line is item showcased in Precancels on french stamps. Yet another very classic stamp design.
Though I haven’t written much about British empire / commonwealth stamps, I still find them very attractive. The image is taken from British Post Offices in China entry.
And last on the line is one of my very first worldwide local issues from Hamburg. This stamp was showcased in Private local stamps of Hamburg.
Besides being nice looking stamps, each of them carries personal memories. I can still remember that the Austrian item I found in kiloware. Wurttemberg stamps I bought in antique fair at Joensuu in the early 1990’s. Eisenhower stamp I found in off-paper stamps horde I have bought (several) from UK, same story with the British P.O. in China stamp(s). The French stamps I have received trough stamp exchanges. And the Hamburg stamp(s) and Bavaria I have bought from Finnish online auctions.
