Here’s a lovely cover from Poland (sent by Andrzej). It has a strip-of-5 of Polish 2006 dog stamps (Michel#4289-4293, cat. value 4€) issued for internation dog show in Poznen, Poland .

The first stamp shows Polish hound, that is a hound-like hunting breed of dog that is indigenous to Poland.

The second stamp shows Polish foxhound,a type of large hunting hound. Foxhounds, like the name suggests, are used in hunts for foxes.

Third stamp shows Polish lowland sheepdog, a medium sized, shaggy-coated, sheep dog breed native to Poland.

Next on the line we have Polish Greyhound. The Polish Greyhounds originated in Poland, most likely from the Asian sighthound, a Saluki type dog. So despite it’s name, it is not a direct relative of the Greyhound dog.

And finally there’s the Tatra Shepherd Dog, also called Polish Tatra Sheepdog or Podhalan. It has always been assigned to guard and protect sheeps against wolves in the Tatra Mountain region of Poland.

how do you get to click the images of stamps so neat? do you scan them?

  2. Keijo wrote :

@Gaurav… Yes, I use a scanner (more precisely Epson Photo 4490 Perfection) to take all the images on this site. Each scan is taken initially either with 300 or 600dpi resolution, and then resized to publish size in image editing program.

keijo…what a wonderful array of gadgets you have…the latest technology, I wonder…how your house looks like! (actually I’ve been peering on Google’s map)… wow!!! it seems to be on an isolated wood!… Amazing!!! I love it! but sadly, I think I can’t afford it, when you said about the cost of living in Suomi though…!

@Fred… Actually most of my devices are farm from latest tech. But true, most Finns (or let’s be honest, Finnish men) are “addicted” to gizmos… On the hand, we have a house full of kids, but not a single games console  Plenty of traditional board games, DVDs etc stuff you’ll find in any family with small kids.

And yes, there’s plenty of wood both in & out of our home.

Re, cost of living… Finland does have one of the highest personal taxation levels worldwide. If I recall properly, about 47% of mean income goes to various taxes. But in return most public services are free/low cost, and of somewhat good quality.

And to most Finns, Nokia is a pariah these days
