Good ol’ time adventure and mystery
Several times I have wondered why some postage stamps appeal more than others. One of the explanations I have come up with is, that some stamps bring along a feeling of good ol’d time adventurers.
Take for example this chinese Sun Yat-sen stamp (Mi#864, cat. value 0.30€) issued in 1948. I can very well imagine this stamp to be a part of world where Indiana Jones, Pekka Lipponen (a finnish pulp-fiction adventurer from 1950’s) and several other fiction adventurers belong.

That early China stamp was depicted with Dr. Sun
Yat-sen (National father of the Republic of China),
the stamps was overprinted with surcharged as
TEN THOUSANDS DOLLARS, and postmarked on
July 30, 1948 from Hankow.
1948 was the China communist civil war ending
period.
This stamp comes from an interesting period. As pointed out by Gulfmann, the overprint means Ten Thousand Yuan. During this time, the Nationalist government (KMT) were losing the war as a result of very bad economic policies coupled with corruption of the highest order (the Minister of Finance fled to the US with his ill gotten gains and died there) caused unbearable inflation across areas controlled by the KMT. Note that the paper of the stamp is also of inferior quality, when compared to similar stamps issued earlier.
Yes, this pair of stamps do tell a lot of story!
That was very nice piece of background for this stamp. Thank You, Tsungfei.
