Lighthouses of Finland miniature sheet
From ugliness back to beauty. The lighthouses of Finland miniature sheet issued in 2003 is yet another work of art. It features some of the best looking lighthouse stamps I’ve ever seen.

Catalogue details for the sheet are: Michel bl.#31 (stamps #1670-74), catalogue value 6.50€.
The sheet contains five 1st class stamps (worth 0.65 eurocents at issue date). Total print of sheet was 800 000 copies.
The lighthouses on sheet are: Bengtskär, Russarö, Rönnskär, Harmaja (in Swedish: Gråhara) and Söderskär. Sheets top margin includes short details of each lighthouse as well as a sea map.
Besides excellent colour and design choises, one of the “killer features” of this sheet is “glow in the dark” phospors used with lighthouse lights. And yes, they work even after soaking the stamps/sheet.
And to give a final touch with this great item, the copy above is cancelled in Hanko / Hangö – hometown of Bengtskär lighthouse.

Mint sheet look better
Hi Peter,
I’d say it’s a matter of personal taste. But yes, this issue seems to lose some of it’s “glossiness” when soaked.
Indeed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder..
I like the Australian 2006 Lighthouse series better..
Cheers …. Steve.
