If the task of typing dreads you, then simply don't do it. There are lots of alternatives to keeping an inventory (such as pen+paper; or making a video/presentation with narration). It is by far the best and easiest to navigate and with lots if info without being too technical specially for a new collector like me. Though I haven't physically seen your excel inventory system I'm very sure, judging from the number of people asking for a copy, that it is better than the others around. As for me, I'm not quite ready to do my inventory just yet. I still have a lot of sorting to do. Besides typing is my least favorite task.
