A quick review of Karelia Stamps 5th online auction
Karelia Stamp’s 5th (semi-annual) online auction is now open for public at http://www.kerailija.net/auction/eng/. Since the auctioneer is a long-time client and friend of mine, I can’t think a better way to kick off this new Online auction reviews-category for my blog.
What’s available
A total of 1931 lots – all photographed (with at least one image). As usual (for Finnish auction houses), the strongest selection is in Finland, Åland and Estonia stamps from all eras and in all price ranges. In addition there is a normal selection of better single items worldwide, and collections and lots from Finland and foreign countries.
Especially those keen on topicals (especially aviation, ships, animals and industrial development) should definitely check the selection on FDC-covers, postmarks and postal stationary. There are some truly fabulous looking items with attractive prices.
Payment methods
The accepted payment methods include IBAN bank transfer (recommended inside Euro area) or secure credit card payment using Mastercard or Visa.
An important note is that buyer has to pay a 20% buyers premium which includes postage and packing globally.
My choises
Below are some of the items I consider as recommendable or very attractive. Usually these are in price range of 10-20 euro … By clicking the image you’ll end up in live auction page.
There are plenty of other nice airmail and red cross related covers; some of them quite difficult. And for those interested in Zeppelin’s, there are of course some copies of the “famous” Finland Zeppelin overprints.
Those interested in ships and ship mail should definitely own this item:
As a “green / eco”-friendly person I can’t stop admiring the nature related stamps of the world. This early maximum card (or actually the stamp) is showing a picture of Saimaa seal – a very endangered species living in great Lake Saimaa (Finland).
And of course there are the worldwide lots… One of my favourites is this lovely small selection of early Rhodesia:
