Indian special covers
My friends in India have sent me some nice covers.
First I have commemorative cover sent by Rainbow Stamp Club’s Jeevan Jyoti. The stamps are from Festivals of India miniature sheet issued on 07th October 2008 (so this is not a real-time FDC).

Festivals of India cover
All stamps have a denomination of 500p. Topics display Durga (Puja)/Dussehra (Kolkata), Dussehra(Mysore) and Happy Deepavali.
The festival of Dussehra (also known as Dasara or Vijaya Dasami) marks the victory of the forces of Good over Evil (or in this case Lord Rama over Demon king Ravana). It is considered an auspicious day to begin new ventures in life. On this festival, people decorate their house entrances with flowers.
Deepavali, also known as the festival of lights, usually occurs around October/November; it is one of the most important festivals Hindus celebrate. During the Deepavali people light oil lamps in their homes to thank the gods for the happiness, knowledge, peace and wealth that they have received.
As my second item I have a beatiful train-related commemorative cover sent by fellow blogger Mansoor B. On the front we have Lifeline Express commemorative stamp issued on May 12th 2009. The Lifeline Express (or Jeevan Rekha Express) is a mobile hospital train run by the Impact India Foundation.

On the back of the cover there are several extremely nice stamps. On top there is 500p stamp for 1st National girl child day (issued Feb 4th 2009) and 500p stamp for 125 years Postal life insurance (issued Feb 11th 2009). On bottom we have 500p stamp to commemorate 150 years of St. Paul’s Church (issued Jan 25th 2009) and 500p stamp to commemorate 150 years of heritage building/ Standard Charted Bank (issued Nov 17th 2008).

Hi M.R.Thakre,
this blog (and the comments) are not for personal stamp exchange ads . Thus your address has been removed.
hello Mr Kapre
I am with Keijo on this one. Being much closer in age to you, Mr Kapre, than to Keijo, I have taken more interest in stamp collecting as my years advance. I too began collecting as a child and continued my interest on and off through my career at one of the large international accounting firms. Now that I have retired from that career, I find that stamp collecting mixes well with my second career, college professor. And frankly I am more knowledgeable about stamp collecting now than I was when I did not have as much time to dedicate to the hobby.
So Mr. Kapre, you and I can continue to enjoy stamp collecting despite our “advanced years”!!!
