Happy Halloween and a peaceful Hallowmas
Though most of the western world is preparing for Halloween, most Finns celebrate this weekend also as Hallowmas (also known as All Saints day). Hallowmas tradition has two meanings: to honour all saints and to remember those passed over. Especially the latter has strong position in Finland, and most finns will visit graveyeards/ churches and light up candles in memory of lost loved ones this evening. Unlike Halloween it’s a quiet celebration.
Finland has issued plenty of stamps to match the topic, but personally I like this brand new definitive postage stamp quite a lot.

Happy Halloween and a peaceful Hallowmas to all readers.
Interesting. In the U.S., when someone has died, we often say “passed away.” We say “Passover” to mean the Jewish holiday in the spring commemorating the Hebrews’ (Israelites) escape from enslavement in Egypt.
Latin America also celebrates All Saints Day (Day of the Dead), and many North Americans are adopting this holiday, not to be confused with Memorial Day which we celebrate at the End of May.
Hi Carol,
and thanks for additional information.
