Finnish Christmas postage stamps: Feels like Christmas
I’m a Christmas person. Without a doubt it’s the only celebration that I expect seriously year after year. For me Christmas has never been about religion, it’s a celebration of family filled with traditions, good food and being together.
To share tidbits about the Finnish Christmas as well as many faces of Christmas postage stamps, I’ve come up with a simple Advent calendar in form of 25 posts (this being the #1) showing Finnish Christmas postage stamp issues from the past years. This is my way to wish a merry Christmas to all Stamp Collecting Blog readers!
But let’s begin the Christmas countdown by showing off this year’s international Christmas postage stamp featuring a red Amaryllis, one of the most popular flowers of Christmas. Despite the rise of facebook SMS-messaging, email etc. , Christmas stamps and greeting cards are an essential part of traditional Finnish Christmas. In 2008 Finns sent a bit over 50 million domestic greeting cards; that is roughly 10 greetings per each Finn.

2008 Finland - Christmas postage stamp, international rate, a sheet of 10 stamps.
Like most of the recent years Finnish international rate Christmas stamps, this is a 1st class forever stamp issued as (soakable) self-adhesive.
