The concept of the Jubilee is a special year of remission of sins and universal pardon.  In Christianity, the tradition dates back to 13th century when Pope Boniface VIII convoked a holy year.  At various times in Church history Jubilees have been celebrated every 50 or 25 years.  The last Jubilee years have been 1950, 1975, 1983 , 2000 and 2008.
