Cyprus 1993 “Mufflon” error
I’m quite sure this is one of those errors that many stamp collectors have never heard of. I must confess that I was more than pleasantly surprised when checking the catalog for this stamp.
The stamp below was issued on May 24th 1993, but as it contained an design error (word “Mufflon” instead of “Moufflon”) it was withdrawn from sale by June 2nd. A new fixed design (Michel #807 II) was issued June 24th.

1993 Cyprus - Mufflon Encouragement Cup error. Michel #807 I, cat. value 35€
And as can be seen from the cancel, my copy was canceled the day after this design was withdrawn. I did some googling (and eBay digging) for this stamp and it turns out most copies on the market are either mint or on FDC. So I can say that I was more than fortunate to found this from unsorted world kiloware.

Great finding!!!!
That shows that, once in a while, kiloware also pays economicly too!!!
I love the random surprises from kilowares. Unfortunately, they are now almost extinct in Malaysia.
I agree, it is great when you find something rare and unusual.
As a matter of interest the Stanley Gibbons number for the “Mufflon Error” as it is commonly known is SG 835 and was later replaced with the correct spelling “Mouflon” under SG 835a.
According to Stanley Gibbons 2008 catalogue, there is no difference in the valuation of mint or used stamps for this particular issue, which I feel is a little odd. But, they are supposed to be the “experts” so who am I to disagree?
Great blog! Thanks for sharing.
@Michele… Michel too values mint and used precisely the same, which I agree being odd. But I’m just a collector, LOL.
