Canadian Save the Polars and Glaciers miniature sheet
This could very well be a sequal to “I hate when postal service ruins a beautiful item” post I made week ago. Sadly most of the items on this nice cover have escaped the postmark.

2009 - Cover from Canada
First we have “Save the polars and glaciers miniature sheet”. Very nice item, and luckily it managed to receive few minor traces (the orange lines on top of the clip) from the postmark / cancel. On the stamps are of course the Polar Bear and Arctic Tern. On top of the sheet is a large picture of Arctic Fox. Personally I find it somewhat odd that the bottom of miniature sheet displays penguins which don’t live in northern hemisphere.

Another item on the cover commemorating the Silver Dart. On February 23, 1909 Silver Dart first took flight about thirty feet above the Canadian ice covered basin. This historical experiment marked the first controlled powered flight in Canada and the British Empire.

My compliments to Erik Thureson for (the cover and) stamps. I hopy you like the “bird booklet” cover I send you in return.

Hi Keijo
Penguins of course live in the Antarctic region and the slogan on the miniature sheet says ‘Preserve the polar regions…’ meaning the Antarctic as well as the Arctic, so perhaps not so odd after all?
Love the blog by the way, please keep up the good work
Best regards
Steve
Thanks Keijo, it is exactly the sort of item I had been looking for, pre Euro currency era stamps used during the Euro era currency. Unfortunately the cover received no cancellation whatsoever so it does not document the use during any era. What a shame.
Regards,
Erik
Hi Steve,
I thought it too… But why not to include something that lives in both poles; like gray whale? But that’s just my personal opinion / view… It’s a nice sheet in all cases. Thanks for the positive feedback; I’ll try keep up the good work
