A Sweet Bite of Brazil
Every time I find something a bit more special, I enjoy a feeling of excitement and pleasure. Below is a modern (1999) definitive stamp from Brazil that put a big smile on face. From top it’s like most modern definitive stamps, but there’s a twist (like in all good stamp stories).

1999 Brazil. 1 R definitive stamp, strawberry. This specific stamp has catalog value of 30€!
This stamp is the highest value from temporary series that Brazilian post issued on late 1999. The catalogs I have don’t mention the reason why a temporary issue was put out,but I assume it was either increased demand or shortage of regular stamps. Unlike the regular issue (see photo below), this one had somewhat unusual technical specifications: no gum, no phosphorescence, and a microperforation. Not so surprisingly, these stamps were withdrawn from sale on January 2000 leaving their sales/usage period extremely short.

1997 Brazil. 1 R defintive stamp, strawberry. Stamps from regular issue use zigzag-diecut for separation of stamps; and they have unsoakable self-adhesive gum. Catalog value for this stamp is about 1€.
I still need to find rest of series, but I trust (or hope) they’ll all find their way to my album some day for much less than their catalog value suggests

Neat stamp, Keijo.
I must be getting good at my powers of observation — I saw the picture and thought “what’s up with those perforations?” before reading your article.
I’ve never seen a stamp with microperfs before. Are they common with other issues / countries?
@Mark…
I haven’t seen anything similar before either, and I can’t recall seeing anything similar in catalogs either. So possibly this is a unique case in world of stamps
great finding, congratulations!!
I am glad to see that others “tingle” with excitement when they discover something unique about their stamps.
Stamps, like the books in my personal library, are my unique friends with whom I spend many pleasureful hours.
I hope to improve my Brazil collection; so I enjoyed this blog
