Besides Somali Republic (see yesterdays blog entry), Sahara OCC R.A.S.D (or officially République Arabe Saharouie Démocratique – Arab Republic of Western Sahara) is one of the most common sources of modern topical bogus / cinderella stamps.  None of the RASD issues have postal validity anywhere. At best, they can be considered as local propaganda labels or cinderella issues.

Western Sahara, the former Spanish West Sahara, is the last African colonized country still waiting for independence. Originally the area was intended to receive its independence by being divided between Morocco and Mauritania, but the arab population objected, and the whole matter went to the United Nations, where it has remained unresolved ever since. Currently the area is under Moroccan regime.

I don’t know how many RASD stamps are out there, but I’ve seen a french stamp dealer providing packets of 200 different RASD stamps. Personally I have approx. 100 different RASD stamps. So the real number of issued stamps must be several hundreds, if not more.

    Hi Rafael,

unfortunately I’m not aware of no such resources :( Possibly the French readers of the blog might know something?

It’s sad that “bogus stamps” don’t have a specialized webstore like RigaStamps is for cinderellas (warning – do not visit this site, unless you have plenty of spare time. It is an addictive resource for all sorts of cinderellas, LOL)
